FIELD TRIP REPORTS 2

We started early to Moraine Hills (McHenry Dam, IL)  We weren't sure what we would see with the temps in the low 30s. However, upon entering the park,  we became quite hopeful because the water was running free. We knew that would mean great waterfowl spotting! A local birdwatcher gave us some tips dealing with the ice and where to see some interesting water birds.  I stayed back to film and bird spot near the dam.  In the end, no one was disappointed!  The Sandhill Cranes had come in with their rolling trills exploring the shores of the river banks. We were impressed by the number of other birds we did see: Great Blue Heron, American Black Ducks, a lot of Buffleheads, Goldeneyes, Mergansers, and so on. We worked up a hearty appetite a the end of our Artic like hike!  We ended up in Woodstock, IL at the Courhouse Grill for a hot meal. It was certainly a great early Spring day to remember!  Let's give a hand to Cyndi Duda, our trip leader for a fantastic hike.  Thanks all! I talked to many of the fisherman there. They weren't having any luck at all so, they were birding too!

OH NO! Looks like Hannah Vassmer and Brian Herner. (past Pres PWA) have run "afowl" with the law at the Courthouse Grill (the old Woodstock jail.)
